The giraffe typically gives birth to one calf, during the first week of its life the mother carefully guards her calf. Young giraffes are very weak and cannot defend themselves. When the calf is born it can be up to 6.5 ft tall! The calves stay with their mother for about a year and half, then go out on their own. Giraffes usually live for 25 years.
